The adjustable insect spreading board in lime wood (width 14 cm, length 40 cm, adjustable slit from 0 to 15 mm) is a standard tool for entomologists who wish to set flying specimens. This lime‑wood spreading board allows wings to be spread precisely thanks to its progressive slot, facilitating needle insertion and achieving a flat, symmetrical pose. It is suitable for working on insects of various sizes, including micro‑Lepidoptera, and is used with fine pins for natural drying while preserving wing and body morphology, for preparation appropriate to conservation, study, or collection.
Lime wood is a denser and harder species than balsa, which makes needle insertion more difficult and can slightly increase the risk of stress on fragile wings. The material is also more rigid and less yielding in use, without the lightness and softness of balsa. Lime remains durable and stable, but conversely is less suited to intensive use and very fine manipulations. The balsa version is more comfortable and better suited to delicate preparations.
