NEW VERSION 2026
The Browning Command Ops ELITE 40 photo trap (model BTC-4E40) perfectly illustrates Browning’s desire to offer high-performance models at an excellent price/quality ratio. Compact and easy to install, it delivers standard quality photos and videos, with quick release times: about 0.3 s for photos and 0.7 s for videos. Browning manufacturing quality, a guarantee of reliability, gives the whole an exemplary robustness.
The device ensures night shots thanks to its red LEDs "low glow", slightly visible by some animals, which makes it a little less discreet than the "no glow" models. Its small built-in screen allows clear navigation and intuitive camera settings.
At this price level, it is difficult to find a better compromise between performance, simplicity and solidity.

This is a “low glow” photo‑video trap, meaning it emits a faint visible light when taking photos or videos. Most animals won’t notice this type of LED, but more sensitive species (e.g., deer) and the human eye may briefly perceive the flash. For that reason, it’s not ideal for security applications since it can be detectable, but it’s perfectly suited for private properties, gardens, or contained habitats.
The main advantage of red “low glow” LEDs compared to invisible “no glow” LEDs is that the flash range remains at its maximum. Moreover, its Illuma‑Smart technology automatically tunes the IR flash intensity to improve short‑range night images (up to 10 meters).
Programming is simple and intuitive: the interface covers the essentials and offers basic but efficient options. With minimal English skills, you can easily set it up without the manual.
Its “Camo” finish makes it nearly invisible in woodland environments.
The 0.3‑second trigger ensures quick photo capture. Daytime images are colorful and sharp, while nighttime photos are average—animals farther than 10 m at night may appear slightly blurred or dark. The “Rapid Fire” mode takes 4 photos within 3 seconds, increasing your chances of getting a usable shot.
Video triggering time is around 0.7 seconds. Footage is clear and colorful in daylight, especially under good light conditions (900p HD+). Nighttime videos are also quite good, ideally when the subject is within 10 m of the camera. Video length can be set from 5 seconds to 2 minutes, and audio quality is standard.
Its maximum detection range is around 20 meters, the flash range nearly 25 meters, and the field of view about 42°.
Battery life is outstanding—best achieved with lithium batteries (though alkaline ones also work). For example, with 30 day and 30 night photos per 24 hours, the camera can last about 10 months on lithium AAs.
With a 32 GB SDHC card, it can store roughly 3,600 photos at 22 MP or about 500 videos of 20 s each in Ultra resolution. This model supports SDHC cards up to 32 GB only (no SDXC).
In timelapse mode (1 photo per minute), a 32 GB card will fill up after approximately 2 months.
In conclusion, the Browning Command Ops Elite 40 is an ideal choice for beginners or budget-conscious users who want reliable automated photo and video capture. As long as the nighttime subjects stay within 10 meters, this camera provides consistent, standard-level performance—comparable to, and in some cases rivaling, more expensive trail cameras in trigger speed, autonomy, and video quality.
