This photo-video trap/ camera Spec Ops ELITE Full HD HP5 2025 from Browning has been primarily designed to make excellent videos, thanks to its resolution of 1920 X 1080.

It remains to this day one of the very best from a quality/price point of view, in making videos (model BTC-8E-HP5).

The difference with its predecessor (the Spec Ops Edge) is essentially with a multilingual menu, which allows for a menu in English.

Option Pack Browning
  • Sans option - Piège photo-vidéo seul
  • Pack complet : 8 piles lithium, 1 carte SDXC 64 Go Kingston, 1 boitier de sécurité CAMO, 1 câble de sécurité Masterlock

It is a photo-video trap of the "no glow" type with infrared, that is to say, it does not emit any light when taking photos or videos. Which makes it very useful for wildlife monitoring but also in the field of security.

Its programming is simple and intuitive. It also has a 2-inch color screen allowing direct viewing of photos and videos in the field.

Its "Camo" finish makes it almost undetectable in the forest.

The strong point of this photo-video trap lies in the triggering, since it displays 0.1 seconds for photos (adjustable up to 0.7s), but especially 0.4 seconds for videos, making it one of the fastest on the current market. Especially with a recovery time around 0.5 seconds.

Its trigger field is around 24 meters, its infrared flash reaches up to 30 meters, and its detection angle is close to 42°.

Regarding the photos, they are of excellent quality during the day and will meet your expectations.

At night, they can sometimes be of average quality beyond 15 meters. Simply because the choice of a "no glow" device allows for discretion ensured at night thanks to its invisible LEDs, but at the expense of performance compared to red or white LEDs (which are detectable).

This version still has the technology "Radian 5" which allows it to take very good night photos up to 15 meters.

For videos, day and night, they are impressive for a device of this price, it is really here that the Spec Ops ELITE HP5 2025 stands out. The day videos are very clear, especially with a high brightness, and the colors are magnificent. At night, the range of the videos is excellent and the recordings are also very clear. The sound is also well crafted and the videos are crystal clear.

The videos can then be viewed on PC with any standard software (like VLC Media player for example - free - or even Windows Media Player if updated).

Regarding autonomy, it is very correct, on the condition of obviously using lithium batteries, or in a lesser degree than conventional batteries. As an example (with lithium batteries), if the photo trap had to take 30 photos during the day and 30 photos at night every 24 hours, its autonomy would be about 6 months.

If you only have to make videos, and mostly at night, the autonomy with lithium batteries will be about 2 months (depending on the activity on site of course).

Note that this new version also accepts rechargeable AA batteries (minimum 2500 mAh recommended), but alkaline/lithium batteries are strongly recommended for night use.

The Spec Ops ELITE HP5 can now handle SDXC cards up to 512GB, giving it unparalleled autonomy. Without necessarily going as far as such rather expensive card sizes, we can remember that with a 64GB SDHC card, it will be able to take 7500 photos in 24MP and 450 videos of 20s in Ultra resolution.

This camera-video from Browning is therefore ultimately rather a video-photo trap, in the sense that Browning first made every effort to make videos of excellent quality, since they can easily compete with more expensive competitors.

Regarding the photos, this device has a fairly quick release, and the day photos are of good quality.

Highlights:

  • Quick triggering for photos and videos
  • Very good quality of day photos
  • Videos of excellent quality given its price
  • Now works with rechargeable batteries (but recommended lithium batteries)
