The SM5BAT is a next-generation multi-channel recorder designed for simultaneous acoustic and ultrasonic monitoring. It combines four recording channels—two ultrasonic and two stereo acoustic—enabling the surveillance of bats, birds, and other taxa with a single device. Its two built-in microphones (one ultrasonic and one acoustic) ensure simultaneous capture of signals, and a second ultrasonic mic can be added for independent dual-channel detection.

Engineered for extended deployments, the SM5BAT delivers record-breaking battery life thanks to a redesigned compartment compatible with lithium-ion or alkaline batteries, and it can be powered by solar panels via the Wildlife Acoustics Power Kit or another external source. Its reinforced IP67 enclosure and waterproof microphones guarantee total reliability in the harshest field conditions, while the integrated mic tester simplifies pre-deployment functionality checks.

The device features a GPS/GLONASS module for high-precision time synchronization (30 microseconds) across multiple units and accurate sound emission geolocation. Configuration is simple and fast via Bluetooth connectivity and the Song Meter Configurator mobile app (iOS/Android), which allows creating recording schedules and estimating deployment durations.
