Unlike the Wildlife Acoustics USB Echo Meter Touch microphone, the M500-384 works on various platforms: desktops, laptops, mini-PCs, tablets, or smartphones, using sound recording software of your choice. The M500-384 uses standard device drivers and requires no custom driver installation. It is compatible with most operating systems: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. Due to the vast number of possible combinations, full functionality cannot be guaranteed on all devices and OSes. Specifically, the hardware and software must support recording at 384 kHz sampling rate and 16-bit resolution. A full-speed USB 2.0 port (OTG/host enabled) providing at least 150 mA USB power is required at minimum. Free apps on the Play Store can test if your phone/tablet supports USB OTG. Most programs need specific configuration for these recording settings.
You will also need audio recording software to use this microphone. Suitable free or paid programs are available, such as Pettersson's free BatSound Touch Lite for Windows PCs. Audacity is another free option for Windows, macOS, and Linux. For Android devices, "USB Audio Recorder Pro" and "Bat Recorder" are available on Google Play Store. For iOS devices, the paid app "Ultrasonic Analyzer" is available.
The M500-384 has a Mini-B female USB port. To connect it to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, an adapter is required. For tablets and smartphones, select an adapter with a male USB Type-C or Micro-B plug. The only included cable connects the M500-384 to a standard USB port on a computer.
