This book is aimed equally at nature enthusiasts and experienced entomologists, whether amateur or professional. Bringing together the latest information on the 66 species of dragonflies that have been observed in the Geneva basin to date, it also aims to champion these fascinating insects, which are increasingly threatened by the degradation of the wetlands on which they are entirely dependent. Following in the tradition of the atlases published by Éditions Faune Genève, it is richly illustrated, including 310 photographs and 52 distribution maps.
Initiated by the Faune Genève association and several Geneva-based naturalists, the idea of updating the 1996 atlas of dragonflies in the canton of Geneva (Oertli & Pongratz) came to fruition in 2018, and the project began in 2019 with three consecutive years of fieldwork, which enabled the collection of a wealth of data. In particular, this data has enabled a more consistent level of observation across the entire Geneva basin.
This book, written by David Leclerc and Jacques Gilliéron, is the fifth title in a series of books dedicated to local wildlife published by the Faune Genève association. Richly illustrated, it aims to provide an overview of the biology, ecology, evolution and conservation of dragonflies in the Geneva basin. It thus serves both as a reference work and as a book for all naturalists, curious minds and nature enthusiasts wishing to learn more about the diversity of dragonflies living in our region.
