A monumental work including all the know species and subspecies of butterflies known from Benin. Both sexes illustrated life size, recto and verso, for each species. Many varieties also illustrated. 3,100 photos, of both set specimens and living butterflies in the field, on 230 plates.

Alain Coache has dedicated his life to entomology, developing a fascination for the insects of West Africa. Specialising in the Coleoptera and Rhopalocera of this region, he has become an essential pillar in the development of knowledge about these species.

Thanks to his travels and research, he created the work "Atlas illustré des rhopalocères du Bénin", published by the Centre d'Études et de Recherches Entomologiques Béninois, University of Abomey-Calavi. Co-authored with Bernard Rainon and Antonio Sinzogan, this remarkable atlas, specialising in the rhopalocera of Benin, was honoured with the Prix Constant in 2017, awarded by the Société Entomologique de France (SEF).

A unique feature of this vast study is the description of a new species of Euphaedra, and the mention of almost 280 species for the first time recorded in Benin. This figure more than doubles the number of species previously recorded!
